Hi, i have a windows 10, 64 bit. i've just downloaded Blue, IDK 11 and netbeans. when i run Blue by Blue\bin\bluex64, the output console says: java.nio.file.NoSuchFileException: I think that maybe could be a problem of PATH or something. so i tried to see on the prompt if the virtual machine is installed fine and it says this: C:\Users\Giulio>java version Error: Could not find or load main class version Caused by: java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: version what can i do? |

Hi Jan Jacob, It looks like jdk 13 is being used, also OSX 10.12 is a bit older so may be a little tricky to diagnose. I think if you could email me offlist the full info I can look into it further. The message "Termination Reason: DYLD, [0x4] Symbol missing" makes me curious if something changed in 6.17. Also, which version of Blue are you using? Thanks! Dear Steven, since I updated Csound from 6.16 to 6.17 beginning of February and also updated java to java 8-update 321 a few days ago I noticed, that my Code for spatialization does crash right away if I do render. It runs on my Linux-Computer, some example pieces from blue work here on my mac on blue too, but my own code crashes that used to run before… I do get a crash report from blue then, which I do send here… at least the beginning. If you need the full report, just let me know. I am here on mac OS X 12.6 Have you got an idea what might be wrong? Hi all, i just uploaded a new Video Tutorial: The External Scores in Blue tutorial shows how algorithmic scores are generated in Blue, in particular how this is done using 3rd party score generating programs (programs that are not part of Blue). Blue is an Integrated Music Environment, powered by Csound. Developer of Blue is Steven Yi. This program can be downloaded at https://blue.kunstmusik.com/ Contents: - importing from BlueShare - ObjectBuilder: nGen Score Generator. (nGen itself must be installed: http://mikelkuehn.com/index.php/ng) - ObjectBuilder: AthenaCL Score Generator. (AthenaCL for Python3 must be installed: https://github.com/ales-tsurko/athenaCL) - how to deal with Note Processors that are variable over time in combination with Scaling of the Objects - CsBeats Voice Over: Mieke Bába Editor: Icu Knevel Director: Menno Knevel (http://www.geluidsmanvanhetnoorden.nl/) |

Hi all, i have uploaded to BlueShare 3 effects- for you to download and use. 1. ADSR imposes ADSR envelopes on the incoming signal. All controllers are automatable. Based on UDOs from Steven Yi: https://github.com/kunstmusik/libsyi/ 2. Equal 4 simple equalizer sections, each with their own frequency range. Uses the opcode eqfil, a 2nd order tunable equalisation filter based on Regalia and Mitra design. The amplitude response for this filter will be flat (=1) for kgain=1. With kgain bigger than 1, there will be a peak at the centre frequency. 3. AudaxEQ a 10-band EQ equalizer, using the UDO from Steven Yi: https://github.com/kunstmusik/libsyi/blob/master/audaciouseq.udo that, in turn, is a Csound UDO implementation of Audacious' EQ: https://github.com/audacious-media-player/audacious/blob/master/src/libaudcore/equalizer.cc Also, i'd like to mention that old Blue effects, sometimes corrected and sometimes improved and all with BSB GUI, can be downloaded from https://github.com/tjingboem/Blue-effects. greetings, Menno |

Hi Dave, I saw that you released your piece to the Csound list (lovely work!). I can't really think of a workaround solution in current Blue other than what you are doing already unfortunately. Maybe a system for global code might be good that can generate data for CsInstruments or CsScore? I think that'd be pretty flexible as well as read values that might be generated during score generation (i.e., global variables set by objects). Thoughts? IOW, moments where there are 6 voices sounding together would be slower than moments with 5 voices sounding together. I tried the tempo widget first but it's not well-suited for what I have in mind because (1) I want to use a exact integer value for each node, which is difficult to do by dragging and (2) the tempo area favors the area above 60 bpm and isn't on the scale I need. It's easy to write code to generate the tempo changes, but I had to run it as a separate .py file and then paste it into Global Score. This works fine, but it would be better if I could do it somehow from within blue. Thanks, Steven! I understand re Jython. WIthout getting into excruciating detail, I have a series of events in several sound layers, aligned (for convenience) at 1-second boundaries, but I'm working in the 7.5 bpm tempo range. Hi Dave, Good to hear from you! I'm just getting back into the swing of Blue dev now after a bit of a hiatus. For Jython, I'm using the latest version released which was 2.7.2. I think that project has gotten into a kind of maintenance mode and I don't expect a 3.x compatible version to be released anytime soon unfortunately. I think there may be possibilities for a modern Python if I moved to using graalvm but I haven't ever spent time exploring it. For score objects, only i-statements are parsed. Could you describe what you're trying to do and maybe I can try to think of a workaround? Thanks! Hi, I am trying to run Blue 2.8.1. I have the JDK 11 and JRE 8 / 1.8 installed and get this error when Blue is turning on modules. org.netbeans.InvalidException: StandardModule:com.kunstmusik.blue.plaf jarFile: C:\Users\~\Desktop\blue-windows-2.8.1\blue\blue\modules\com-kunstmusik-blue-plaf.jar: java.lang.UnsupportedClassVersionError: blue/plaf/Installer has been compiled by a more recent version of the Java Runtime (class file version 55.0), this version of the Java Runtime only recognizes class file versions up to 52.0 I assumed "this version...versions up to 52.0" references JRE on my machine. When I searched for 55 / JRE 11 I learnt it isn't as simple to get. I have downloaded Blue, unzipped to desktop, and run the executable (blue and blue64) in the bin folder. Same error. Maybe I have missed something? Appreciate the help, Michael-Jon |

Hi Steven, I am back using blue again (hurray!) after quite a while. Here are some questions about some things I've encountered (one of these was already sent as its own email, but adding it here for completeness). I'm using v2.8.1 in Win 10 with OpenJDK 11.0.12. - Is there a way to move a Layer from one LayerGroup to another LayerGroup? - The included Jython version seems to still be at the Python 2.x level, based the error message[1] I got when I tried to compile a PythonObject that used an f-string. Are there plans to upgrade? Or is there no Py3-ccompatible version available? - Is there a way to generate a "t" statement in the score from code? I tried to do this using a PythonObject but there was no output unless I changed "t" to "i". I'm guessing blue is ignoring "t" statements. FYI, none of these are major issues for me at all. I'm enjoying being in blue again. The piece I'm working on now would be very difficult without it. Hi All, FYI: I got a Blue category added to the Csound forum: https://forum.csound.com/c/blue/10 Menno has the inaugural post there. :) I'll be monitoring posts over there and here and will see how it goes for a while before deciding on whether to focus communications there or not. This seems to be happening to more than one person and is something I will investigate. The workaround to delete the dev folder is mentioned in this thread: https://github.com/kunstmusik/blue/issues/570 I have a note to try to reproduce this in a Windows Sandbox to investigate further. Let me know if the above link instructions work out for you. On Wed, Jan 20, 2021 at 1:24 PM Finn O'Hare <fin...@ho...> wrote: > Hi Steven, > > > > Thanks so much for the response. Hi Steven, Thanks so much for the response. The last piece of advise, removing the “#”, did the job. The program is now opening. However, there seems to be some options missing. [cid:image003.png@01D6EF59.6075A9A0] This is what the application looks like when I open it. I’m looking to set up the “program options” as described in the manual. But that doesn’t seem to be available to me. Any ideas what the issue could be? If you set that and then Blue still doesn't run, you can try editing the blue/etc/blue.conf file to set a path to the location of your JDK. When I go to open the application I get the error message “cannot find java 1.8 or higher”. I have definitely got the newest version of Java installed. As well as OpenJDK 11. I’m running this on windows 10. Any potential fix to this issue? Best, Finn |

Hi Robert, I replied to your issue that you filed on Github. Please try deleting the dev folder and restarting Blue and let us know how that goes. Hi! I installed Blue 2.8.1 on Windows 10, with AdoptOpenJDK 11.0.9.101 hotspot. When Blue is started, some things are missing on the screen. For example there are missing drop down menus in File menu, so I can not open files. When I click on the File menu, the output of the Application Log returns the following message: "WARNING [org.openide.filesystems.Ordering]: Not all children in Menu/Window/ marked with the position attribute: [blue-ui-filemanager-BlueFileManagerTopComponent.shadow], but some are: [org-netbeans-core-io-ui-IOWindowAction.shadow, SwitchToRecentDocumentAction.shadow, Web, Tools, Separator3.instance, ConfigureWindow, org-netbeans-core-windows-actions-ResetWindowsAction.shadow, Separator4.instance, CloseWindowAction.shadow, CloseAllDocumentsAction.shadow, CloseAllButThisAction.shadow, GroupsMenuAction.shadow, DocumentsAction.shadow]" Here are the info about the Java version: >System Info: Product Version = Blue 12.0-631bd69cd6112b1cc4c892c24e3e605b1ba04241 Operating System = Windows 10 version 10.0 running on amd64 Java; VM; Vendor = 11.0.9.1; OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM 11.0.9.1+1; AdoptOpenJDK Runtime = OpenJDK Runtime Environment 11.0.9.1+1 Java Home = C:\Program Files\AdoptOpenJDK\jdk-11.0.9.101-hotspot Br, Robert <http://www.avg.com/email-signature?utm_medium=email&utm_source=link&utm_campaign=sig-email&utm_content=webmail> Virus-free. www.avg.com <http://www.avg.com/email-signature?utm_medium=email&utm_source=link&utm_campaign=sig-email&utm_content=webmail> <#DAB4FAD8-2DD7-40BB-A1B8-4E2AA1F9FDF2> |

I think if we did move to a forum, it'd be better to focus communications in one place if possible and closing the mailing list would be an option. I believe the Discourse forum software has "mailing list mode" where all messages that get posted to forums get emailed just like a mailing list and that you can reply to messages via email: https://meta.discourse.org/t/what-is-mailing-list-mode/46008 I think the settings for the forum allow you to selectively choose which categories you want to receive emails for which is handy. Dear Steven, I could imagine moving the list to the forum too although I have some questions before: - would we get a notification about changes of the blue-section of the csound-forum? I have to admit, that I have no experience with forums yet. The convenient thing about the mailing list is that the new posts get delivered automatically - I do not have to go and look actively if there are any new posts on the site. So if there are notifications about new posts at the forum - are they individually configurable? Would it be possible to get notifications on blue-posts but ignoring all the other csound-posts (as traffic regarding Csound in general probably is quite frequent)? - I also could imagine that responses to a post at the forum take longer time according to each participants time interval to visit the forum. - Would the blue-list still coexist then? I guess it would be better, to have all discussions together at one place, either list or forum. All in all I do regard the forum as quite clearly layouted, I guess it is easier to find some information also after a longer time after the posts are sent. Also I'd really appreciate it if more people would got notice of the benefits of blue. i would like to see a Blue category as a part of the bigger Csound Forum. A Blue forum, where announcements of an update of the program but also for new instruments and effects, in short communication that involves *all* Blue users instead of a few that are active in the development of the program, makes sense to me. Hi All, I wanted to ask here what everyone thinks about the Csound forum (https://forum.csound.com) and if we should move discussion for Blue there to a new Blue category to get more visibility for Blue. Another option is to create a separate forum like what Rory has for Cabbage (https://forum.cabbageaudio.com/). Note that there is also a fair amount of chat on the Csound Discord server for Blue, but I think there's a difference and a value to have forums or mailing lists too. Any feedback appreciated!
