Hi Peiman, blue in Farsi sounds great! I have no idea of what complications could occur, but it'd be simple to try out a quick test on your end. If you download the version of blue I put up for translators (see archive message at: http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/forum.php?thread_id=6601480&forum_id=37491 ), you could add a Farsi translation by going to blue/classes/blue/resources/locale and adding a SystemMessages_fa.properties file and an entry in the supportedLocales.txt file "Persian,fa" or perhaps "Farsi,fa" (I do not not know what is more familiar for Persian speakers). Try translating a few entries such as the ones starting with "menu." to see if they will show up. Finally, start up blue, go to File->Program Options and selecting Farsi, and restart blue to see if it renders correctly. The program I have been suggesting is Yudit (http://www.yudit.org). If you open up the file using filetype "Java", it should render the text as it should appear, unescaping the escaped unicode strings. If that program gives problems, it should be no problem for simply using any text editor you are comfortable with and translating what is to the right of the equals signs. For example: menu.file.text = File Only the "File" would need to be translated. You can take the SystemMessages_en.properties file in the blue/classes/blue/resource/locale directory and use that for testing translating. If that works and you're willing to translate the whole file, I think that would be absolutely wonderful! Thanks, steven Pei...@ao... wrote: > Hi Steven, > Thanks for your replay. Hi Steven, Thanks for your replay. Mario (hello!) mentioned to me last night that I could perhaps volunteer to do the Persian translation of Blue. I am absolutely up for it but don't really know how it works and how much I should know about programming before I can do a job like that. Another thing is that it will perhaps be more complicated with Arabic alphabet, is that the case? I know that there are not many People doing electroacoustic and computer music in Iran (I know of 6!) and that a great program like Blue translated into Farsi can help popularise this kind of composition in Iran (there is a lot of interest and talent). I would be interested to hear your thoughts. All the best Peiman |

Hi Peiman, The AddtiveSynthesis module should be working, but perhaps some changes I had been working on have introduced bugs. =o All of your bug reports are *incredibly* helpful; the CeciliaModule is a large body of code and there's a lot to keep track of in my head so any reports of bugs against it are very helpful. I will take note of these bugs you have listed and will hope to iron out soon enough. Until then, good luck with your composing! steven Pei...@ao... wrote: > Thanks Steven, > > I'v installed beta 14c and started composing! > > There are somethings that may be worth mentioning, although you probably > know about them already. Thanks Steven, I'v installed beta 14c and started composing! There are somethings that may be worth mentioning, although you probably know about them already. Some of the Cecilia modules don't work. When loading the additive synthesis the following error massage appears: java.lang.OutOfMemory Error and blue crashes. some modules cannot be loaded at all (no error massage) as if loading does not make any difference (i.e. stochasticgrain). For some modules (e.g. resonator bank) this error massage appears: score generation failed! Another thing is that some of the functions on the editor window of cecilia such as "Reset Graph", "Generate Drunk Graph", "generate Square Graph" and "scatter Graph" either don't work or don't function correctly. Reset Graph option would be specially helpful because otherwise if you want to reset the graph you either have to delete all the automation points manually or reload the module. Thanks again and all the best, Peiman |

Hi All, I've pushed beta 14c of 0.94.0 to SourcForge. This has the fix for the CeciliaModule bug that Peiman reported (thanks!) as well as has updated Spanish language files (Thanks Roberto J. Osorio-Goenaga!). For those of you who have been gracious enough to answer my request for translators, I have made a special blue build available at: http://www.kunstmusik.com/blue.zip This has the blue.jar expanded out in a classes directory (really should only be used by translators). To run, modify either the bin/blue.bat (windows) or bin/blue.sh (linux) and edit the BLUE_HOME variable setting to where it is on your computer. After that, the language file that you are working on should be placed in the classes/blue/resources/locale directory and you will need to modify the supportedLocales.txt file in that directory to add an entry for your language file. For example, if doing Japanese, the file should be named SystemMessages_jp.properties, and the entry for supportedLocales.txt should be "Japanese,jp". Italian would be SystemMessages_it.properties and "Italian,it", French would be SystemMessages_fr.properties and "French,fr", Portuguese would be SystemMessages_pt.properties and "Portuguese,pt". To see the changes, start up blue, go to File->Program Options, then choose the language to use and restart blue. Thanks all! steven [CHANGE LOG] >Notes for 0.94.0 beta 14c< [released 2004.02.17] blue [update] - Spanish language files updated by Roberto J. Osorio-Goenaga [update] - PianoRoll - Note entry changed to shift-click (was rt-click) [update] - moved HTML documentation to documentation/html; helps to make PDF manual easier to find [update] - all strings externalized for internationalization [fix] - CeciliaModule - time behavior now applied correctly before scoreStartTime [internal] - removed blue.undo.blueUndoGroup, replaced with HashMap (more versatile) |

Hi Andrés, As always, thank you for your help! Luckily, someone has already volunteered to update the Spanish files, so no worries. Thanks again and very much good luck with your work! (I'm looking forward to it!) ^_^ steven Andres Cabrera wrote: > Hi Steven, > I'd like to help with the spanish translation, but I want to finish > porting the csoundav opcodes to csound5 and documenting them before > starting on the translation of blue, so if noone shows up for the job > before that, I'll do it. > > Andrés > |

Hi Steven, I'd like to help with the spanish translation, but I want to finish porting the csoundav opcodes to csound5 and documenting them before starting on the translation of blue, so if noone shows up for the job before that, I'll do it. Hi Peiman, Thanks for the sending this file. It helped very much to diagnose the bug. The problem was a matter of bad coding; for soundObjects in blue, typically they follow this order: 1)Generate their notes 2)Apply time behavior 3)Change start time to match soundObject startTime For the CeciliaModule, steps 2 and 3 were reversed, which affects both the starttime and durations, as you experienced. It is fixed in CVS; I will try to put out a beta 14c tonight. Thanks again and sorry for the bug! steven Pei...@ao... wrote: > Dear Steven, > Thanks for your replay, I have tried many Cecilia modules including > SuperBrassage and Mask filter. > The main thing is that the length of a cecilia object seems to have an > effect on when that object is going to start in playback time, even if > the beginning time of the object is fixed on the timeline. Hi Stephane, That would be fantastic! It's been absolutely wonderful how many people have approached me on translating. Having blue in French would be great! I can do the Italian translation of the strings, if nobody has done it yet... But take into account that i'm not a Blue expert. Tell me what text editor I should use under Windows. Cheers! Hi All, I've just finished going over my program blue and updating my string files for translation. Josep Comajuncosas has been incredibly generous in offering to update the Catalan version of the files, and the English files are already finished. I am looking for any help to update the Korean and Spanish translations, as well as looking for new translations into different languages. Translation work consists of taking a copy of the English language file and translating all the values in the key/value pairs. An example of the file is available here: http://cvs.sourceforge.net/viewcvs.py/bluemusic/blue/src/blue/resources/locale/SystemMessages.properties?rev=1.21&view=markup By doing a translation of the file, it will make blue render all text for its menus, labels, etc. in that language. Any help in this would be greatly appreciated!!! If you are interested, please email me and I can send the most recent language file to translate as well as information on how to edit (requires a Unicode editor that is able to understand java-style escaped unicode strings, such as Yudit at yudit.org). Thanks, steven |

Hi Peiman, I'm not sure what is going on with playback. I have tested lightly with some modules and have been able to put them after each other. Could you tell me what cecilia module you were using, and could you send me a .blue test file? It would help me to test the CeciliaModule as well, which is far from being bug-free! =o steven Pei...@ao... wrote: >Hi Steven, > >I have been experimenting with the Cecilia modules recently. Hi Steven, I have been experimenting with the Cecilia modules recently. I can't make the time-line function normally when using more that one copy of a Cecilia object. For instance when I put one object at the start of the timeline and another at a different place (with say 10 sec. gap in between) the playback stops after the first object has been rendered (I have tried giving different names to multiple objects). Also when trying to superimpose Cecilia objects, the timing does not work according to the arrangement of these objects on the time-line. It may be that I have not set up the Cecilia configurations correctly... I would very much appreciate any advice. Many thanks Peiman P.S. thanks so much for your great work and new releases; I have become addicted to the line objects! |

Hi All, Due to the bug reported by Menno I pushed out a new release this morning. The one noticable feature change will probably bee the marquee selection now defaulting to not drawing the alpha background. It's a lot faster this way, but it can be switched to the old drawing if desired. Thanks all for the bug reports! steven [CHANGE LOG] >Notes for 0.94.0 beta 14b< [released 2004.02.15] blue [update] - BSB - Knob - made label editable by double-clicking; for easier setting of exact values [update] - Marquee Selection - draws marquees without alpha background by default; can set to draw with alpha from ProgramOptions (drawing without alpha speeds up selection performance greatly) [fix] - PianoRoll - prevented insertion of note where notes exist [fix] - LineObject - start times of notes were not being set to start of soundObject [fix] - ScoreTimeCanvas - convert to generic score did not import generated isntruments into instrument library correctly [fix] - ScoreTimeCanvas - now sizes correctly on startup and when viewport resized |

Hi Menno I use winXP too. I change the titles by right clicking on the object and choosing the option "object properties". There you can see the object name at the top of the window and easily change it. When you click ENTER and close that window the new name will appear on the time line. I hope that helps Peiman |

Hi Menno, To change the name of the soundObject, you have to use the SoundObject Properties Dialog. This is accesible from either pressing F3, using the Window->SoundObjectProperties menu option, or rt-clicking on a soundObject and selecting "Show Sound Object Properties". As for the LineObject, this is yet another mistake I did not catch. =( My apologies. I have it fixed in CVS and will push out a beta 14b release tonight. Thanks very much for the bug report! steven na bob wrote: > Hello Steven > > You asked me what do I mean when I try to change the > name of a part in the Score. Hello Steven You asked me what do I mean when I try to change the name of a part in the Score. I mean the Objects on the scoreline, I cannot give them other names.'sound'or ''genericScore' are already in there and cannot be changed. (I think the little box with the letter S or L or F will suffice for the recognition of what types of objects they are.) I'd like to be able to give these objects also other titles like flute or drums. Maybe changing names works well in Linux but I use WindowsXP. And now for something completely different: I am trying to develop a Theremin instrument using the LineObject. Using the LineObject seems to me to be a versatile solution. However there are problems. when I look in the generated CSD, there seems to be a problem in the starting time (p1). When starting at 0.0 there are no problems (see example 1) but moving the parts around gives trouble (see example 2). The starting of the LineObject are not correct. I hope you find a way to correct it? The examples are in the .blue format thanks for the attention, bye, Menno example 1 <blueData version='0.94.0 beta 14a'> <projectProperties> <author></author> <title>LineObject Example 2</title> The reason is is that blue will call csound and capture its output, then parse that to display the soundfont information. If using winsound, the output doesn't go out to the console but instead goes to a window, so blue has nothing parse. I should make this more configurable sometime, but unfortunately have not had much time to do so. >- Is it possible to give more depth to the Undo >(Control Z) level? This is always on my list of things to address and make better, but alas requires some deeper restructuring than it seems I ever have the time for. I will hopefully find the time to really clear this aspect of the code up sometime. Thanks for the feedback and will hopefully progress on these issues shortly! steven |

Hi Steven, (I do not have acces to internet all the time, so the content of my messages are somewhat erradic.) there are some little things in the use of Blue I encounter that could be improved (to my taste anyway) Here we go: - In the scoretab I can not change the name of the part. I know this was possible in earlier releases of Blue. - I try to configure my sound editor in the Manage Tools but without any luck. I think the link has been cut. But maybe the idea I have is a better solution: (in the score) the possibility to rightclick on a wav or a just frozen wav and choose to jump to a soundeditor (which path is known in the Preferences), make some alterations and reinstall the wav into Blue. - the pianoroll is a great addition to the program. But because the image of the notes in the pianoroll do not have any information in them, they can be much smaller so one can see at least 3 or 4 octaves at once I'd like to mention another thing that at the moment is not working like I think it should. I know this is not a huge bug at all but I thought I mention it anyway. - I have the feeling that the soundfontviewer does not work the way it should work; it calls winsound and this program shows -in a rush- the contents of the soundfont bank I selected. Winsound ends with the 'press OK to exit' message so one is not able to scroll throu the contents of the soundfont. I guess that the empty black boxes to the right from the soundfontviewer was the one that has to be filled with these contents? - Is it possible to give more depth to the Undo (Control Z) level? Sometimes I throw too much away or change too much and the Undo doesn't work. thanks for your attention until next time, bye, Menno __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Hi Adnres, Sorry for my late reply! Things have been busy for me as well. The idea of the pattern editor would be similar to Patterns, but each box would not represent a pattern but a single note, as the purpose would be more focused towards drum parts. This would allow to make graphically editing of parameters much easier. I wasn't thinking graphs but more like velociy editing using a vertical slider of some sort, but perhaps graphs would work well too. (Ideas here would most likely transfer over to the PianoRoll, where I would like to introduce some graphing capabilities and user-definable fields which would be create replacable strings to use in the note template.) Still just brainstorming the idea. Any suggestions on other programs to look at as models, or any feedback very much appreciated! steven Andres Cabrera wrote: > Hi Steven, > Sorry for the late reply... Hi Mario, Glad to hear you're enjoying blue! It's always nice to know other people are finding blue useful in their own musical work. ^_^ As for the bug, it is my fault; I have the code set to technically set the value as float, but because I made an error in setting up the Object type for the column as an Integer, it won't allow anything but integers. I have published a beta 14a to fix this bug (uploading now, should be available in the next ten minutes). Thanks very much for the bug report and apologies for not testing this soundObject well enough! As for line/curve/random features, it should be possible, just a matter of spending time to implement it. I'll try to get it in the next release; if you could, it'd be great if you could report it as a RFE (Request for Feature Enhancement) on the Sourceforge page for blue (accessible from the help menu as "Request a Feature". You'll need a SourceForge account to add a request (they're free!), so no worries if you don't want to do that, but it's very helpful for me to keep track of what I should prioritize. (The LineObject itself was a RFE by Andres Cabrera!) Editing cecilia code is feasible but with some reservations; I had worked it out in my head to allow this, but I had not yet implemented. The idea is that it would behave like the BlueSynthBuilder in that there would be an edit mode toggle. If you edit, then switch back, it'd parse to see if the input was valid for the interface, if so, to see what objects may have been removed and remove values stored for those objects, and then add default versions of new objects. Hopefully I will be able to spend more time on CeciliaModule in the next week or two, so I will keep this request in mind when working on it. Thanks for reporting the bugs and for the feedback! steven Mario Pantin wrote: > Hi Steven, > > I have been using Blue for some time now, and find it an amazing > composition environment, thanks so much for your work! > > I was very happy to see that the new beta was posted yesterday. Hi Peiman, No worries about spending my time! I've probably spent more of yours at this point with the buggy releases! =o I appreciate your feedback and questions are always welcome. ^_^ steven Pei...@ao... wrote: > Hello again, > I just found out why I couldn't edit the numbers in the line object > table. Hi Steven, I have been using Blue for some time now, and find it an amazing composition environment, thanks so much for your work! I was very happy to see that the new beta was posted yesterday. As Peiman already mentioned (hi peiman!) in beta 13 it was not possible in the new line object to edit the max and min values of the lines, nor their names. I found myself having to manually edit the .blue generated code in a text editor in order to edit these values. I am using Blue in a WinXP pc. Unfortunately, the problem persists somehow in beta 14. It is now possible to edit the line name and the max and min values, but only if you enter integer values. Blue would not let me input floats in these fields. A request: would it be possible to incorporate some line, curve and random generating functions into the line object, a la Cecilia? Also, It would be great if it was possible to directly edit cecilia code within Blue. Is this feasible? Again, thanks so much for your work developing this amazing program.
