Ok, well, now I have a bit of a problem. The machine I worked on to edit those files is at my now ex-employer's building. I can't remember exactly which files I edited, and strangely enough, I can't seem to query CVS to give me any information on the files I've checked in in the past month; the query works, but nothing comes up. Actually, I requested to see any activity for the past month and nothing showed up. I query for any activity by myself, and only the stuff from over two years ago shows up. Anyway, I'd appreciate any assistance you could offer. I can remember some of the files, I think, but it would be better if I could pull a report on the commit activity and see which ones I did for sure. Hi Jared, (Just a note, this is the developers list and questions like this should probably go to the users list!) For this it has to do with file associations. You can right click the jar and go and find the properties and change "Opens with" to use javaw.exe from your java installation. You might also want to go into winrar and disable that association if there's a configuration option for that. Also, you can run: java -jar blue_0.120.0_installer.jar steven On Jan 16, 2008 10:34 AM, Jared Dunne <mic...@ms...> wrote: > > Hello list, > > I've been away for a while. Hello list, I've been away for a while. I want to begin experimenting with Blue = again. I've downloaded the .jar installer, but when I double click on it, it doesn't install, it simply opens winrar and I can see the files in it's archive. I remember having this problem before. There was an easy solution. But = for the life of me, I can't remember what it was! Any help would be greatly appreciated. Best, Jared |

I've taken looks at Eclipse RCP before but haven't been attracted to it for a couple of reason. One is that it uses it's own GUI toolkit, meaning I'd have to port all of my graphics code as well as learn another library. Considering I like Swing and Swing is a part of the standard Java virtual machine I'm more inclined to use that over SWT (and I'm not sure SWT is as easy to customize the look of as Swing). I've been using eclipse now maybe 5 years and netbeans for 2 or 3. Ever since Netbeans 5 beta I've been finding it getting better and better and I have a strong feeling that starting in the next Netbeans 6 that I might very well be able to use it for most of my blue (and other) development. Especially since Netbeans 6 includes support for my favorite versioning tool, Mercurial! There's truth in that, but that conventions I'm seeing so far in designing apps in the Netbeans platform are pretty solid. One nice think that would be an almost instantaneous plus would be inheriting the windowing framework to merge editors into tabs and what not. Updating blue should be a cinch too as we could use netbeans update sites feature (i.e. I can push a bug fixed module, users can just do "Check for updates" and auto-download). I think that there would be some things which would require rewrites but a lot of it would be pretty much just grunt work and most of the codebase would be reused. I'm also thinking of the long, long term (years from now) though don't know if using all of these things would be a good thing or a bad thing. Well if anything, just wanted to get out to everyone that this is on my mind. I'm still doing research but if anyone has more to chime in please do. Thanks! steven On 8/7/07, Michael Bechard <got...@ya...> wrote: > Without knowing anything at all about the NetBeans RCP, I'll say from years of experience programming, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Hi All, I've been very interested in the Netbeans Rich Client Platform: http://www.netbeans.org/products/platform/ And have been reading the Rich Client Platform book: http://www.amazon.com/Rich-Client-Programming-Plugging-NetBeans/dp/0132354802/ref=pd_bbs_sr_2/105-6386533-3299626?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1186511204&sr=8-2 I've had a sense that moving blue over to Netbeans RCP and doing a large code rewrite might clean up things a great, though I still don't know if it's going to be worth it in the end, as it might be a detractor for contributions from others who might not know the Netbeans platform. It's also quite a bit to redo and I still don't know if it would work to use the RCP for blue. Does anyone have any experience with the Netbeans Platform or have any thoughts on this? Thanks! steven |

Hi All, I wanted to let everyone know that I'm in the middle of redoing the UI for SoundLayers and that if you're using a CVS build of blue that I ask to not check out from it for a day as I'm in the middle of things so they might not work if you check it out (they'll compile, but features are not yet complete). I don't normally check things into CVS that aren't fully working but I need to move back and forth between IDE's and am doing so via CVS. I'm redoing the UI btw for the SoundLayers (the are on the left in the main ScoreGUI where one modifies the name of the layer, muting, soloing, and noteProcessors) as I need to add a couple more options (particularly automation parameter selection) and doing so in the old UI using the table wasn't going to work out well I thought. There is likely to be on change coming up that may change existing projects but it it is purely cosmetic. I am about to redo layer heights to use different sizes. Currently, the smallest size is really sort of pointless IMO as it messes up the UI on the left and also is too small to read anything I think. I am going to make the second to smallest size the new minimum size. I am also going to scale the sizes to be a bit bigger, so that each step in increasing size will be 15 or 20 pixels instead of 10, as that seems to be more common in other composition environments I've been looking at. I think eventually there will be an option to select height by layer, but will delay that until another round. So, after this new build, your old projects may look a bit bigger than they did previously. Beyond that, I've done some basic drafting out classes and interfaces for how to do parameter automation and then switched to reworking the soundLayer stuff as that had to happen first before the parameter stuff could be put in. If there's any questions or comments, please reply here. I think after today it should be fine to use blue again from CVS. Thanks! steven |

Hi Michael, Glad to hear from you! I had read your first two emails and was just looking at code and came back to find that it's all worked itself out. Glad that is all settled now! Also glad to hear that you're finding the changes since you've been out to your liking! I've been a bit engrossed with Csound programming but am moving along nicely with the Tracker SoundObject. Hopefully will get around to more blue programming soon! Talk to you later! steven On 8/12/06, Michael Bechard <got...@ya...> wrote: > Nevermind. Nevermind. I forgot that the default time behavior for a SoundObject is scale, and the scaling behavior is what's stretching the note to last from start to finish. Ok, getting back into blue after a long hiatus. Changes look great, Steven. But my NoteProcessor no longer works. All it does is offset a note's start time to coincide with the delay of a given convolution reverb. Here's a snippet of the code: currNote = (Note) it.next(); oldSubjDur = currNote.getSubjectiveDuration(); currNote.setStartTime(currNote.getStartTime() - delayTime); currNote.setSubjectiveDuration(oldSubjDur); setSubjectiveDuration used to fix the issue of correcting the end-time of the note, but not anymore. The note's start time get's set correctly, but somewhere along the line, it's ignoring the subjective duration and stretching the note to fit with the old end-time. Any thoughts? Hi Andres, I think I am running the same setup as you on my laptop at home. I have tried a few times, dragging things around, resizing the timeline, scrolling, etc., but unfortunately have not been able to reproduce your bug. =3D( I am about to release a new blue tonight; perhaps give this one a try (though I don't believe I've changed any code that would affect it), and if the problem persists, I'll try to fix it in the next round.=20 (BTW: If you do happen to see the error again, please take a screenshot and send that to me. Hi Steven, Thanks for your reply. I'm running linux FC4 java version "1.5.0_06" Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.5.0_06-b05) Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.5.0_06-b05, mixed mode, sharing) and blue 0.104.0beta The instability I'm refering to is that the time display changes to a strange time when selecting an object inside the polyobject. For instance, when the polyobject is opened from the sound object library, and you move to the right using the scroller, to show the rightmost objects, the object called 10000Hz appears to be at some time, but when you click on the empty space below the track, or resize the track panel, the time changes. On further inspection, the problem seems to be more related to the scroll bar and the resizing of the pane. When you resize the panel to accomodate more or less time on the timeline, the objects seem to be placed at incorrect times. Can you observe the behaviour now? I've sent this file since it doesn't seem to occur all the time...
