Blosxom is still the king! Blosxom is the most straightforward blogging engine you could ever hope to set up. After the minimal initial configuration you can then customize in any way you desire, provided you have some knowledge of html and css.

Even after a few years since the last update, this is still a ridiculously easy to-set-up and solid cms. You will not find any bloat here. Admittedly, it took me a little while to customise since its been eons since I looked at Perl, but that is obviously not the fault of the cms. Would love to see it have 2020 update. But even no updates, its still a solid base for a webproject. Note - if the link is dead for the plugin page, its likely still find on archive.org.

I am returning to Blosxom after several years with WordPress and am delighted to do so. As a commenter below said, it is simple and functional and, compared to WP, monstrously fast. As an old-school HTML coder I couldn't ask for more.
