Hi, I remember a Spencer Chrysler. I still think you need to thank Joan more, but I appreciate it. :) More content will be added in the future. I don´t plan to stop working on it. The Discord community (that link should work https://discord.gg/EBCm9NGF8h) is far more active now, if you are interested.

Hi Marco! I used to go by a different in this forum many many years ago (hatter98 I thin) but I wanted to say thank you for the amazing contributions you've done to this application over these many years. Biogenesis is perhaps the best evolution simulator out there on the internet (trust me, I've tried them all), not to mention the best one that also works on macs. So, thank you for this work. I greatly appreciate it.

Hi, I am an amateur programmer myself, and started with my Color Mod as a fan, when Joan Queralt stopped working on it. I am also the only active Admin now. Biogenesis is open source, and you can find the newest sourcecode of the Color Mod here: https://sourceforge.net/projects/biogenesis/files/Color%20Mod/2.0/ You can also just mod the vanilla simulation of course. If you add something substantial enough (like a new Color function, but that is only an example), I can also add your mod to the main...

Hey Marco and everyone. I am an amateur programmer who is interested in playing around with the code of this game and adding stuff to it. I was also thinking about making my own new game about microbial evolution in Game Maker Studio 2 once I have enough experience with game design and programming. What does everyone think? Anything I can do to help?

This is mostly a balance update, because I did not have a PC, that worked well enough for the first half of the year, and did not work on Biogenesis. Have a good one now, runs the simulation with 800000 CO2. :) Color Mod 2.01 mainly balances photosynthesis for all plant symmetries: -Exact formula: -for 8-symmetric organisms: ((1961 + (6000 / (number of genes + 2)) + (6315 / symmetry)) * 0.0006) * segment length -for 1 to 7-symmetric organisms: ((1961.329 + (6000 / (number of genes + 2)) + (6315 /...

Today, I have shut down the BiogenesisHub2.00 server because the ecosystem has stagnated. The server's inhabitants have optimized themselves to such an extent that I can no longer justify the cost of upkeep. The environment is almost entirely static, and this even holds true when someone opens a fresh connection; foreign lineages can no longer find any footholds. That said, I see this venture as a huge success; over its lifetime, the Hub has received organisms from 61 distinct users, and sent organisms...

Methane (CH4) added as a new substance: -CH4 is produced by dead decaying organisms (and destroyed spores) and PINK feeding -CO2 is not produced by dead decaying organisms anymore -CH4 and CO2 turn into each other (adjustable in Parameters/World) -Can be used by methanotrophs (new color PURPLE) to generate energy -Intitial amount can be set in "Parameters"...

I was inactive for nearly two months, so this is just a balance update mostly. Changes: Fine-tuned the photosynthesis formula, so that smaller and lower symmetry organisms (but 1-symmetric ones should be weaker) are a bit more competitive than before. FOREST is slightly stronger when a plant touches only one other plant, but slightly weaker, if it touches two or more. Colonies that starve the world of all CO2 should be less common. Organisms with MAGENTA (but not consumers, that also have GRAY segments)...

This update doesn´t change much. However an old (not really severe) bug from the vanilla version was fixed , where especially very small organisms (growth stage) repeatedly shrink and grew, even though they should not grow, because their energy did not increase. This, and the change in the code itself, also is a small performance improvement. All spores grow to the second growth stage now, making it easier for other organisms to feed on them, which should help the balance. Some values for different...

This is mostly a balance update. FALLOW has 2 new variants. One inhibits SPORE and always make them create viruses (if infected). The other makes the victim produce stillborn children, and the number that has to be produced until normal reproduction is possible again depends on FALLOW segment length. Unmodified SKY can only be attacked (forcing the shield) by WHITE plants, that aren´t consumers. Normal viruses cannot do it anymore. Organisms with MAGENTA segments are nearly safe from it. BLUE and...

Well, I finally uploaded Color Mod 1.91, including an updated Readme file. 1.91 should run clearly faster than 1.88 (and a bit faster than 1.90beta3). In comparison to 1.88, there is a new color SPORE, that allows organisms to create different small spores, that do not grow and may hatch later (see Readme). SKY has two versions now, one only freezes movement segments (modified Sky: No), the other works as before. C4 color was completely reworked since 1.88. It makes small segments and also small...

This can be done once for each organism. Spore costs (default value 0) are used, when the spore hatches (when it is created for spore 1-2) now. Was a mess before xD. More balance changes... Download here: https://sourceforge.net/projects/biogenesis/files/Color%20Mod/1.9/ (main download is still 1.88) New strings not yet translated into other languages and no new readme, but everything is going well now. Thought that I could upload another version after 6 months and today was my birthday and this is the "birthday cake" for the people that liked the Color Mod. ;) Did not do that much, however: Simulation runs much faster now (I can run it on 50% larger worlds!), because of many optimisations....

Interesting world here: 2 other consumer species seem to dominate, but this Orange-Omnivore with blue segments manages to survive by using the new dormant spore function. And there are really many spore capsules of them, even though only one individual is active now.

A species, that uses the new spore function. :) It is inactive most of the time. Hatching ones may encounter many viral-plants and create many more spores. Not depleting the food source is useful. They are also able to survive mobile red consumers, which cannot kill all of them at once. Edit: RGB of the color will probably change a bit, looks too much like lavender. Even though it gets more and more complicated to find a color, that is not in use yet xD

I nearly finished (I am sure that everything works) the SPORE color (could have done it faster, but lazy...). It will have 4 variants most probably: Protected BLUE dormant spores Mobile CYAN spores (stationary organisms can have a mobile phase) Infectious (need to be eaten to infect) fruit-like spores (might create a FRUIT color for later Color Mod versions too) Low energy spores (seeds), that make the organism a r-strategist The SPORE color might raise the number of organisms on the map, but there...

I teased two of them already, but decided to include another one I already thought of. These three colors will exist in Color Mod 1.9, if everything works out (balance, coding them.., I could decide to scrap them again, just saying): The "LICHEN" (commensalist) color: Organisms that need to be around normal plants to photosynthesize. Just imagine, that they use some fresh metabolic waste the normal plants produce. Joan Queralt had an idea like that before. He might have done it different of course....

This will be the final version of 1.8X. Will start to create new colors for 1.9 tomorrow (talked about it a bit in the 1.87 thread). 1.88 mainly adds a visual guide for all the colors. That guide was created by a 4chan user (thanks :)) and I just fixed some mistakes and made a few changes. Might be easier to understand my mod now. Well, I hope so xD Not many other changes (just the last version of 1.8X): ROSE symbiont added photosynthesis depends on the length of the ROSE segment now. Therefore you...
