I saw this too, and just posted a patch. Check out the files
section and see if the patch will help you. It changes
battstate to only update from the battery status every 30
seconds, and to only read the battery information (which
doesn't change) once.

Will this get fixed eventually???!?!?! It's a serious issue
concerning you use this on laptop computers where every
single cpu cycle that's wasted sucks a little bit of battery
power! So it's "drain your battery while you watch" and not
vice versa ...
