Changing the Locale

(Updated 2020-8; BallroomDJ version 3.29.24)

Configuration / Options / Global

BallroomDJ will normally use the locale of the system to display localized text. Since most of the localization is not complete, you may want to set the locale to English (US) or English (GB) to display a single language rather than a mix.

Examples:

System Locale BallroomDJ Locale Displayed
nl -- Nederlands
nl English (US) English
en-US Nederlands Nederlands
en-US -- English

As of 2019-2, the following locales are complete:

  • English
  • Nederlands (Dutch)

The install checkbox, when selected, will install the selected locale's localized default data files. These data files include: dances, dance speeds, dance types, dance ratings and dance levels. This will only function for the completed locales.

Selecting the install checkbox will overwrite any existing data files (a backup of the old data files is made, but further changes within BallroomDJ will overwrite the backups).

A new installation of BallroomDJ will install the localized data files.

If you have an existing installation, selecting the install checkbox is not recommended.

  • Dance ratings and dance levels are fully customizable within BallroomDJ
  • Dance speeds and dance types are used in the Edit Dances configuration.
  • Dances can be renamed. Follow the directions found in Changing the Name of a Dance.

If you have an existing installation and want to convert your BallroomDJ installation to use the localized data files, please contact support.
