Version 1.0.31 of NewsGrabber Perl Module has been
released. Changes include: -
- Removing support for Lansystems.com and Appwatch.com (dead)
- Adding support for TWLC.net, Cert.Org and Hackinthebox.Org
- Changed Arstechnica from the ultramode.txt to RDF feed
- Updated feed URL of Dotcomscoop and Linux.com
There will most probably be a stable version 1.0.31 release soon, to sort out the problems with some dead and changed urls. Support for 3 more sites are expected.

After being in Beta for more than a year, I have decided to take the codes into stable mode category. All the knoe bugs have been cuaght and a lot more error checks are in place. Less namespace pollution too in this release.
This may be one of the last releases, atleast for a long time to come.
I have finished most of the coding for Beta 2.0 and been using the codes to retrieve files for my personal .. opps.. I mean beta test for some time now. I hope to release the code soon.
This might also be the last code release for this project as:
(*) The codes have matured to a stable point
(*) Not many people seem to use the codes (atleast not many give any indication of using it via emails or links etc)
(*) Too busy with other more inportant works at hand.
Work has started for the Beta 2.0.x series.
What I would like to change:
(*)My stupidity - actually inexperience - I have been polluting the namespace by exporting unwanted functions. Export if possible nothing. Access everything OO style.
(*)Give the user the ability to change the staleness age from withing newsgrabber.pl rather than wade through the murking waters of .pm files.
(*)Remove the 'use NewsGrabber_Getbackend' call from all the _SITE_.pm files and instead call it once in the NewsGrabber.pm file only.... read more

Work is going on for the Beta 1.2.30 release.
Expected results:
(*)Removal of all non-working feeds
(*)Updation of all changed feed URLs
(*)Support for more sites include any RSS htttp://www.Moreover.com feed.
Version Beta 1.1.25 of NewsGrabber has been released. This change includes the use of XML::Parser to parse XML based backend files to give a more consistent, cleaner and less buggy output.

I have released newer version of the 6 news grabber files. All of them have been re-written structurally, given some though to modularity and common functions.
I guess this will make it easier to concenrate on the actual module structure and implementation.
While I work on the PERL module, I am releasing 6 scripts that can be used to grab backend news from
1. Slashdot
2. Freshmeat
3. Linux-2000
4. Lansystems
5. Cmptr
6. Geekenews
Enjoy
Since I have not been able to find much time to work towards the project, and make available the PERL module, I suggest that you go to my personal site at http://www.srijith.net/perl and take a look at the stuff available as of now.
