I have written a script that creates a Debian package which can then be installed with all dependencies. Otherwise running the program on 64 bit systems is a dependency nightmare. And compiling it is even more complicated (I don't even know if it can be compiled for 64 bit systems without modifications).

Just run the script with
and it will automatically download the program and package it. I have successfully tested it on clean 64 bit installations of Ubuntu 13.10 and 12.04.
