Apparently some newer devices (like my Samsung Galaxy S5) do not include a physical Menu button, nor any virtual equivalent. (It does not have a Back button either, but at least there's a virtual back button.)

http://android-developers.blogspot.com/2012/01/say-goodbye-to-menu-button.html describes the situation and offers a solution to implement an alternative for newer devices.

As it turns out there is another way to access the menu (at least on this device) by long-pressing the "Recent apps" virtual button. But the alternative method should still be implemented, because this means of accessing the menu is not user-friendly at all.

The new June version adds an "action bar" on Honeycomb and newer devices for easy access to the menu. It also adds a new menu item directly on the action bar to conveniently toggle the display of completed items.
