AeroDataBase (ADB)

The present project focuses on improving education in flight dynamics, controls, aerodynamics, and aircraft design, pointing out the need of free, fast and user-friendly computational tools designed to support the learning experience of younger aerospace enginering students. Likewise, this kind of software is sought-after by aerospace industry to speed up the engineers' work in conceptual and preliminary design.

DATCOM methods are taken as reference. In particular, the models refer to the formulas and notations of the textbok:

Aircraft Dynamics: From Modeling to Simulation
Marcello R. Napolitano, Wiley, 2012.

These project delivers an aerodynamic database.
The database is a binary file formatted according to the Hierarchical Data Format (HDF,
http://www.hdfgroup.org). The data can be explored with HDFView, an open source GUI-based tool for browsing and editing HDF (Hierarchical Data Format) files.

Any aerodynamic calculation tool to be build on top of ADB implements a number of semi-empirical aerodynamic formulas and extracts the required data from the database file.
