Open Source Sound Synthesis Software

CWStudio is a portable almost library-independent and computationally efficient generator of CW signals for telegraphy training purposes. It can create a sound with maximum similarity to the real air, simulating many difficulties.

Spectral Orchestrator--A software tool for musicians and composers that creates harmonies/orchestrations from digitally recorded sound files. Currently compiles and runs in Linux and Mac OS X (and eventually Windows/Cygwin).

Soundbench is high-quality GPL-licensed software synthesizer written in C++/Qt that is meant to work across all major platforms (though especially most common Linux distributions). Soundbench follows a development philosophy that emphasizes getting everything stable before adding new features. Soundbench is meant to be usable by anyone who wishes to produce music, whether they are hobbyists, professional musicians, or experienced sound designers. The program is currently in Beta, meaning that it is ready for some simple music production, however is not yet completely stable or complete.

Steel is a cross-platform package for using common text-to-speech (speech synthesis) engines in Python. ...is an interactive sampler backend (GPLv3), plays ogg-vorbis-samples to sound device, sample rate conversion, channel abstraction, controlled via stdin/out, on demand decompression, easy understandable source. Targets: *nix and win32 via cygwin.
