libxmp is a library that renders module files to PCM data. xmp is a module player for Unix-like systems, based on libxmp, that plays over 90 mainstream and obscure module formats from Amiga, Atari, Acorn, Apple IIgs and PC, including Protracker (MOD), Scream Tracker 3 (S3M), Fast Tracker II (XM) and Impulse Tracker (IT) files.

CAVA is a bar spectrum audio viewer based on my own open source project with the same name. Take the audio from the device's microphone and visualize the amplitude of the different frequencies as bars on the screen. Each bar represents a certain bandwidth of low to high frequencies. The leftmost bar starts at 50 Hz and the rightmost bar ends at 10 kHz. Although the frequencies outside this spectrum are audible, they do not contribute much to the overall sound image. You can also adjust the number of bars.

PortMedia was created to develop and share cross-platform, open-source I/O libraries for digital media including MIDI, video, and audio. Only a few things were released under the PortMedia umbrella. The Network Audio System is a network transparent, client/server audio transport system. It can be described as the audio equivalent of an X server. This project is currently in maintenance mode. Patches are accepted, releases will be sporadic.

Competent Audio (CA) is an audio engine suitable for video games. It is written in C, but is designed for interoperability with other languages. Windows and Linux binaries for x86 and amd64 are available. CA uses a machine graph model with support for arbitrary numbers of machines, limited only by the available system resources: - Samplers play back audio clips. - Mixers combine audio signals and optionally perform signal processing. - Sinks send audio signals to an output device. Stereo and mono sound output is supported via a slightly customized version of libsoundio 2.0. Audio clips can have arbitrary channel counts, and can be queued for streaming or dynamic music. CA contains a very simple embedded VM for running custom signal processors, allowing you to add custom DSP code (currently assembly language only) without compiling native code. Errors are reported using well-documented negative return codes, and CA attempts to handle expected errors gracefully.

Speect is a multilingual TTS system. It offers a full text-to-speech system with various API's, as well as an environment for research and development of TTS systems and voices. It is written in ANSI C and uses a plug-in mechanism for extensions. Speect also includes an extensive set of Python bindings for quick implementation of new ideas, these bindings are derived from SWIG interface files and can easily be extended for other languages supported by SWIG. Speect is free and open source software. As a collection it is distributed under a MIT license.
