    ungit

    ungit

A tool to simplify the use of git, on any platform, anywhere

Git is known for being a versatile distributed source control system that is a staple of many individuals, communities, and even for the City of Chattanooga to crowd source bicycle parking locations. However, it is not known for userfriendliness or easy learning curve. Ungit brings user friendliness to git without sacrificing the versatility of git. Git and github both supports PGP signing. Within Ungit these features can be enabled. Currently, Ungit DOES NOT support GPG authentication! While git allows robust programmatic authentication via credential-helper, I could not find an easy way to do something equivalent with GPG. Therefore, password-less gpg authentication or 3rd party gpg password must be configured when using Ungit to commit with gpg. Ungit will watch git directory recursively upon page view and automatically refresh contents on git operations or changes on files that are not configured to be ignored in .gitignore.

    gitbase

    gitbase

SQL interface to git repositories, written in Go.

gitbase, is a SQL database interface to Git repositories. This project is now part of source{d} Community Edition, which provides the simplest way to get started with a single command. It can be used to perform SQL queries about the Git history and about the Universal AST of the code itself. gitbase is being built to work on top of any number of git repositories. gitbase implements the MySQL wire protocol, it can be accessed using any MySQL client or library from any language. The project is currently in alpha stage, meaning it's still lacking performance in a number of cases but we are working hard on getting a performant system able to process thousands of repositories in a single node. Stay tuned! gitbase was born to ease the analysis of git repositories and their source code. Also, making it MySQL compatible, we provide the maximum compatibility between languages and existing tools.

    GIT quick statistics

    GIT quick statistics

An efficient way to access various statistics in git repository

git-quick-stats is a simple and efficient way to access various statistics in a git repository. Any git repository may contain tons of information about commits, contributors, and files. Extracting this information is not always trivial, mostly because there are a gadzillion options to a gadzillion git commands. For those who prefer to utilize command-line options, git-quick-stats also has a non-interactive mode supporting both short and long options. You can change to the legacy color scheme by toggling the variable _MENU_THEME between default and legacy. You can set variable _GIT_LIMIT for limited output. It will affect the "changelogs" and "branch tree" options. You can also exclude files from the stats. Note that it works with any alphanumeric, glob, or regex that git respects.

    Git Blame Someone Else

    Git Blame Someone Else

Blame someone else for your bad code

git-blame-someone-else is a humorous Git utility created as a joke to let developers attribute problematic code to someone else. It modifies both the author and committer information of a commit, making it appear as though another contributor is responsible for the changes. While not intended for production repositories, it demonstrates how Git’s metadata can be manipulated for fun or demonstration purposes. The project highlights how easily commit authorship can be altered, serving as both a lighthearted tool and a reminder about the importance of trust in version control history. It’s written in shell script and is lightweight, requiring only Git and basic system tools to run. Despite being a novelty project, its popularity shows how developers appreciate humor injected into the programming ecosystem.

    Gradle Git Version

    Gradle Git Version

A Gradle plugin that uses `git describe` to produce a version string

This Gradle plugin derives your project’s version directly from the state of the Git repository, turning tags and commits into consistent semantic versions. It reads the most recent tag, the number of commits since that tag, and whether the working tree is dirty, then composes a deterministic version string. Teams can enforce patterns (for example, treating non-tagged builds as snapshots) and keep CI builds reproducible without hardcoding versions in build.gradle. The plugin integrates with Gradle’s project.version, so the computed version flows automatically into publishing, packaging, and artifact naming. It works well in branching workflows by incorporating branch or distance information, making debug artifacts easy to trace back to source. By centralizing version logic around Git history, it eliminates manual bumps and reduces mistakes when cutting releases across multiple modules.

    nbstripout

    nbstripout

strip output from Jupyter and IPython notebooks

Opens a notebook, strips its output, and writes the outputless version to the original file. Useful mainly as a git filter or pre-commit hook for users who don't want to track output in VCS. This does mostly the same thing as the Clear All Output command in the notebook UI. You can download and install the latest version of nbstripout from PyPI, the Python package index. Strip output from IPython / Jupyter / Zeppelin notebook (modifies the file in-place). Usually, nbstripout is installed per repository so you can choose where to use it or not. You can choose to set the attributes in .gitattributes and commit this file to your repository, however there is no way to have git set up the filters automatically when someone clones a repository. This is by design, to prevent you from executing arbitrary and potentially malicious code when cloning a repository.

    Dolt

    Dolt

    Dolt, it's Git for data

Dolt is a SQL database that you can fork, clone, branch, merge, push and pull just like a git repository. Connect to Dolt just like any MySQL database to run queries or update the data using SQL commands. Use the command line interface to import CSV files, commit your changes, push them to a remote, or merge your teammate's changes. All the commands you know for Git work exactly the same for Dolt. Git versions files, Dolt versions tables. It's like Git and MySQL had a baby. We also built DoltHub, a place to share Dolt databases. We host public data for free. If you want to host your own version of DoltHub, we have DoltLab. If you want us to run a Dolt server for you, we have Hosted Dolt. MySQL comes with a MySQL server called mysqld and a MySQL client called mysql. You're only interested in the client. After following the instructions from MySQL's documentation, make sure you have a copy of the mysql client on your path.

    Git Town

    Git Town

    Generic, high-level Git workflow support!

Git Town adds Git commands that make software development more efficient by keeping Git branches better in sync with each other. This reduces merge conflicts and the number of Git commands you need to run. Git is a flexible source code management system. The Git CLI (correctly) supports all possible ways of using Git equally well. It provides basic commands out of which Git users can implement their particular Git workflows. This generic design can make using the Git CLI repetitive in real life. As the screencast above demonstrates, typical development activities like creating, synchronizing, or shipping a feature branch require running multiple, sometimes dozens of Git commands. Git Town adds a high-level layer of Git commands for these activities. These commands are compatible with most common branching models like GitHub Flow, Git Flow, GitLab Flow, trunk-based development and even committing straight into the main branch. See also this external review.

    Git-FTP

    Git-FTP

Uses Git to upload only changed files to FTP servers

If you use Git and you need to upload your files to an FTP server, Git-ftp can save you some time and bandwidth by uploading only those files that changed since the last upload. It keeps track of the uploaded files by storing the commit id in a log file on the server. It uses Git to determine which local files have changed. You can easily deploy another branch or go back in the Git history to upload an older version. git-ftp was not designed as centralized deployment tool. While a commit is being pushed and uploaded to the FTP server, all files belonging to that revision must remain untouched until git-ftp has successfully finished the upload. Otherwise, the contents of the uploaded file will not match the contents of the file referenced in the commit.

    Gitinspector

    Gitinspector

The statistical analysis tool for git repositories

Gitinspector is a statistical analysis tool for git repositories. The default analysis shows general statistics per author, which can be complemented with a timeline analysis that shows the workload and activity of each author. Under normal operation, it filters the results to only show statistics about a number of given extensions and by default only includes source files in the statistical analysis. This tool was originally written to help fetch repository statistics from student projects in the course Object-oriented Programming Project (TDA367/DIT211) at Chalmers University of Technology and Gothenburg University. Shows cumulative work by each author in history. Filters results by an extension (default: java,c,cc,cpp,h,hh,hpp,py,glsl,rb,js, SQL). Can display a statistical timeline analysis. Scans for all filetypes (by extension) found in the repository. Multi-threaded; uses multiple instances of git to speed up analysis when possible.

    VFS for Git

    VFS for Git

Virtual file system for Git, enable Git at enterprise scale

The Virtual Filesystem for Git (formerly GVFS) is an open source system that enables Git to operate at enterprise-scale. It makes using and managing massive Git repositories possible. VFS for Git virtualizes the filesystem beneath your Git repository so that Git tools see what appears to be a normal repository when, in fact, the files are not actually present on disk. VFS for Git only downloads files as they are needed. VFS for Git also manages Git's internal state so that it only considers the files you have accessed, instead of having to examine every file in the repository. This ensures that operations like status and checkout are as fast as possible. Git struggles to handle enterprise-scale repositories. Operations like cloning will slow to a crawl when you have millions of files in a repository, and even something as simple as getting your repository status will leave you waiting.

    gitwatch

    gitwatch

Watch a file or folder and automatically commit changes to a git repo

A bash script to watch a file or folder and commit changes to a git repo. Some programs auto-write their config files, without waiting for you to click an 'Apply' button; or even if there is such a button, most programs offer you no way of going back to an earlier version of your settings. If you commit your config file(s) to a git repo, you can track changes and go back to older versions. This script makes it convenient, to have all changes recorded automatically. If you use an editor that does not have built-in git support (or maybe if you don't like the git support it has), you can use gitwatch to automatically commit your files when you save them, or combine it with the editor's auto-save feature to fully automatically and regularly track your changes. If you have any other uses, or can think of ones, please let us know, and we can add them to this list! gitwatch can be installed from source by simply cloning the repository and putting the shell script into your $PATH.

    Dulwich

    Dulwich

    Pure-Python Git implementation

Dulwich is a Python implementation of the Git file formats and protocols, which does not depend on Git itself. All functionality is available in pure Python. Optional C extensions can be built for improved performance. Dulwich takes its name from the area in London where the friendly Mr. and Mrs. Git once attended a cocktail party. Supported Python versions are Python 3.5 and later. Versions of Dulwich prior to 0.20 also supported Python 2.7. Supported platforms include Linux, Mac OS X and Windows. Dulwich comes with both a lower-level API and higher-level plumbing ("porcelain"). By default, Dulwich' setup.py will attempt to build and install the optional C extensions. The reason for this is that they significantly improve the performance since some low-level operations that are executed often are much slower in CPython.

    Git Subtree Splitter

    Git Subtree Splitter

Split a repository to read-only standalone repositories

Split a repository to read-only standalone repositories. splitsh-lite replaces the subtree split Git built-in command to make splitting a monolithic repository to read-only standalone repositories easy and fast. Both strategies work well and both have drawbacks as well. splitsh helps use both strategies by providing tools that automatically synchronize a monolithic repository to standalone repositories in real-time. splitsh-lite is a sub-project that provides a faster implementation of the git subtree split command, which helps create standalone repositories for one or more sub-directories of a main repository. If you want to learn more about monorepo vs manyrepos, watch this 4-minute lightning talk I gave at dotScale (or read the slides)... or watch the longer version from DrupalCon.
