Drumstick is a tool to play music. This is a set of C++ MIDI libraries using Qt5 objects, idioms and style. It contains a C++ wrapper around the ALSA library sequencer interface; ALSA sequencer provides software support for MIDI technology on Linux. A complementary library provides classes for SMF (Standard MIDI files: .MID/.KAR), and Cakewalk (.WRK) file formats processing. A multiplatform realtime MIDI I/O library is also provided.

SoundHelix is a free versatile Java framework for algorithmic random music composition. SoundHelix can generate random songs, play them (for example, on any number of MIDI devices or MIDI-capable software synthesizers) and is highly customizable using XML configuration. QwertyMidi is a Win32 C++ project that allows usage of a regular PC qwerty keyboard as a MIDI device in Windows.

Drumstick Metronome is a MIDI based metronome using the ALSA sequencer. Intended for musicians and music students, it is a tool to keep the rhythm while playing musical instruments. It uses MIDI for sound generation instead of digital audio, allowing low CPU usage and very accurate timing thanks to the ALSA sequencer.

Red Dot Forever is an extremely simple program to record MIDI files. It has no advanced editing features -- but if you just want to RECORD, listen back to what you PLAYed, and finally SAVE your recording to disk, then Red Dot Forever is all you need.

Advanced GTK+ Sequencer is intended to use for music composition. It features a piano roll, as well a synth, matrix editor, drum machine, soundfont2 player, mixer and an output panel. It's designed to be highly configurable, you may add effects to its effect chain, add or remove audio channels/pads. You may set up a fully functional network of engines, therefore exists a link editor for linking audio lines. In conjunction with ags you need a realtime kernel and alsa support. `ags` uses conditional locks to keep several threads in sync that's why you need at least a preemptible kernel.

LibSMF is a BSD-licensed C library for handling SMF ("*.mid") files. It transparently handles conversions between time and pulses, tempo map handling etc. The only dependencies are C compiler and glib. Full API documentation and examples are included. libTiMidity is a MIDI to WAVE converter library that uses Gravis Ultrasound-compatible patch files to generate digital audio data from General MIDI files. This library based on the TiMidity decoder from SDL_sound library.

QMidiArp is a MIDI arpeggiator, phrase generator and controller LFO for ALSA and JACK. It can run multiple synchronized arpeggiators, LFOs and step sequencers. The modules are also available as LV2 plugins with Qt user interface. QMidiArp has been growing since june 2009 on top of Matthias Nagorni's original arp idea.
