...Unfortunately, Surface devices tend to be a bit special. This is mostly because some hardware choices Microsoft made are rarely (if at all) used by other, more "standard", devices. We aim to send all the changes we make here upstream, but this may take time. This kernel allows us to ship new features faster, as we do not have to adhere to the upstream release schedule (and, for better or worse, code standards). Ristretto is a fast, concurrent cache library built with a focus on performance and correctness. It all started with needing a memory-bound, concurrent Go cache in Dgraph. We looked around for a solution, but we couldn’t find a great one. We then tried using a sharded map, with shard eviction to release memory, which caused us memory issues. We then repurposed Groupcache’s LRU, using mutex locks for thread safety. After having it around for a year, we noticed that the cache suffered from severe contention. ... -

...All APIs are finalized, and no breaking changes will be made in the 1.x series of releases. Users of semver-aware dependency management systems should pin automaxprocs to ^1. When GOMAXPROCS is increased above the CPU quota, we see P50 decrease slightly but see significant increases to P99. We also see that the total RPS handled also decreases. Data was measured from Uber's internal load balancer. We ran the load balancer with 200% CPU quota (i.e., 2 cores). -
