Clonezilla is a partition and disk imaging/cloning program similar to True Image®. It saves and restores only used blocks in hard drive. Two types of Clonezilla are available, Clonezilla live and Clonezilla SE (Server Edition).

Features

  • Filesystem supported: ext2, ext3, ext4, reiserfs, xfs, jfs of GNU/Linux, FAT, NTFS of MS Windows, HFS+ of Mac OS, UFS of BSD, minix of Minix and VMFS of VMWare ESX. Therefore you can clone GNU/Linux, MS windows and Intel-based Mac OS, no matter it's 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x86-64) OS. For these file systems, only used blocks in partition are saved and restored. For unsupported file system, sector-to-sector copy is done by dd in Clonezilla
  • LVM2 (LVM version 1 is not) under GNU/Linux is supported.
  • Multicast is supported in Clonezilla SE, which is suitable for massive clone.
  • Based on partclone to clone partition. However, clonezilla, containing some other programs, can save and restore not only partitions, but also a whole disk.

User Reviews

  • I have been using Clonezilla since its first release in 2007 or so. It has been upgraded as new hardware and software emerged over time. Clonezilla has never let me down! What is being done on this product is true to the 'open source' tradition, and that is remarkable. Kudos could never be enough to thank Steven for his contribution to those that need a simple, reliable and thoroughly tested suite to provide something as basic, and needed, as 'backups'. I tried to make a donation to this project, but was denied, with a notice stating that "Donations aren't supported in this organization's country". I can however state that this project has allowed me to keep abreast of my favorite Linux Distro, for over 15 years. It made other complicated sets of options pale in comparison to this Simple, Effective and Reliable program. My experience with this program is that it has been 'rock solid' and 'without errors'. Thank you for your vast contribution to my hobby for all this time ... Robert
  • Excellent
  • used once and it did all ok. not for beginners because of it's possibilities (although...)
  • Very useful. Backup or restore for Windows and Linux system partition only takes 20 to 30 minutes. Great time saver for technicians and sys admins. Only con is the inability to save the logs to disk (logs are in ram only). Overall this software is made in heaven. Thank you for giving this for free.
  • Giving 5 star rating b/c of reliability - most important quality for ANY backup system! Technically, while not best suited for a complete novice, after some practice it is actually easy to use. Strongly recommended.
