I have put a short demo video on youtube showing my progress so far, in re-writing PyKaraoke. Watch it at.... https://youtu.be/VjWmAS35i6o Ken -- Ken Williams. Torremar Benidorm & Bella Vista Rhyl. A Unix/Linux user since 1983. |

Still struggling with the re-write, I now have a 64 bit Windows 10 netbook, along with my 64 bit Linux Mint XFCE, and I am now working simultaneously on both systems. I am having a lot of issues with deprecated Python calls on the Windows 10, it even crashed out completely on ProcessIdle saying no such function (now fixed). I am slowly taming it though, and now have VLC as the native player, so it can seamlessly play mp3/cdg and mp4, I also have the beginnings of a ticker running along the bottom of the play screen. Lots to do again now, but still enjoying the experience. Do you still develop software Kelvin, and are you still a Linux user? I have not used Windows for at least 20 year, and really hating the Windows 10 netbook. Happy new year from a hot and Sunny Benidorm Ken -- Ken Williams. Torremar Benidorm & Bella Vista Rhyl. That should be about everything now on my github. Maybe you could give it a try Kelvin and see what you think? Some stuff from the original has been removed, such as the kamakazi, which would not work on the 100k files I have been testing with. The background music seems to start up nicely in between karaoke songs, and it also allows for a very simple karaoke system if you only have say 10 karaoke songs. You can install them as background music without using the data base. I am using Linux Mint XFCE 18 Ken On 12/02/2017 11:20 AM, Kelvin Lawson wrote: > Hi Ken, > > Sounds excellent, you're bringing it forward significantly. Hi Ken, Sounds excellent, you're bringing it forward significantly. Over the years lots of people have hoped we would add features for professional KJ use. Is it still suitable for home use with the new version or should we split it into two modes (home / KJ)? Best, Kelvin. I did not mention that I have now got 10 sound effects buttons, the intention is that sound effecs such as clapping, and also favourite songs can be played at the press of a dedicated button. -- Ken Williams. Torremar Benidorm & Bella Vista Rhyl. A Unix/Linux user since 1983. |

I have now got a stage further in all the changes to the PyKaraoke source code. Sorry but the tree browser had to go, someone spent many hours writing it, but I think I may have found a nicer solution. I have also got it to automatically play background music between karaoke songs, as it seems to be what all the professional systems do here. Unfortunately this can only be cdg or kar so far, as it's all pykaraoke allows as valid extensions. I have now got the skeleton of a help system working. I am planning to remove the printer support, it can always be in a separate program, but it does not work on my current Linux system, and since for test purposes I have access to the bars hard drive with over 100,000 karaoke songs, printing them all out is just not practical. So basically I have two tabs working so far on the main screen, the first tab works in the same way it always has. Tab two has my equivalent of the tree browser, you use it in a similar way, find files, and add them to the right hand play list window, the difference it this is the background music, everything in this window plays between karaoke songs on the main tab one window. Well I am still having great fun tearing into the source code of pykaraoke, it's a long slow job, as python is not a language i am familiar with, so it's a long term project. I am currently working as a karaoke DJ here in Benidorm, so I am trying to add features I particularly like in the professional systems I am using. Here is a screen shot of the progress so far. https://drive.google.com/open?id=10dgar-lbRLXXuXSDTz6RrTJhwy54B-jt I am setting up some tabs on the main screen for extra options, so far only the main tab is fully working, with a progress bar and various cosmetic changes. Ken, I totally understand. I wasn't at all suggesting that you should tray Py for a commercial program. I was just addressing your thought that commercial programs didn't or couldn't do this. Personally, I would love to even try Py, because I'm a karaoke hobbyist. However, I don’t know much of anything about code. Thanks Kevin I will look into that, I find that the program is beautifully written, with lots of really helpful comments. it's a lesson to me on how Python should be done. I do however miss my ancient Epsom dot matrix printer, i could print out someone's code on a yards long piece of endless paper, to really try and understand it. Hi, is there anyone active on this list I wonder? I have played around with PyKaraoke for a number of years, but last summer found myself using it for real while running weekly Karaoke sessions at my local bar in Rhyl, North Wales. Last week, I ran Karaoke in Benidorm using some professional software, and after that I did find the method PyKaraoke uses to search for titles a bit clunky, as the professional software used the more modern search as you type. Anyway I re-wrote a bit of the search routine in PyKaraoke to do a search while typing, and was wondering if anyone out there would be interested in trying my changes and giving me a second opinion. Hello!
I have been using the Debian packaged PyKaraoke for conversion of MP3+G
files according to the recipe at:
http://toby.ink/blog/2014/06/14/mp3-plus-g-to-mp4/
Any files with 'ñ' in the file path would not be converted and an
exception thrown.
The problem seems to be around line 480 in pykdb.py, where neither 'dir'
nor 'self.Filepath' is unicode()-ed. 'dir' is later os.path.join()-ed
with unicode()-ed 'file' and then compared with 'self.Filepath'.
The attached patch fixes the problem for me.
Best Regards,
Georg Lehner

Hi my name is Daniel Schürmann and I am working for Mixxx, the free DJ Software. I am looking for a way to integrate Karaoke support to Mixxx. This is the related Mixxx bug https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mixxx/+bug/1108386 It is probably the best solution to interface Mixxx with PyKaraoke, in a way that Mixxx controls the transport and processes the audio samples while PyKaraoke takes care of the Video output. Will this be possible? What do we need for this? Any ideas? Thank you. Daniel Schürmann |

Hi, Is there any way I can slow the lyrics down? In the Windows program Van Bascoe, the lyrics play right on the beat of the note - which is the way it is supposed to be in my experience. Pykaraoke is right ahead of the note the lyric should be sung to. thanks Lorna |

My first recommendation is to see if a machine on which you had already installed it *and it was working* still shows it working -- automatic updates to Windows XP itself have been known to break things. If older installs are working, the next thing to look at is whether the newer ones which don't are on the same Service Pack of WinXP; SP3 is the final one, after which there were only security updates (and those are about to stop), but lots of stuff changes from SP2 to SP3, and that could be a problem. If you can grab a screenshot of the error message, that would be helpful too. Cheers, -- jra -- Jay R. Ashworth Baylink jr...@ba...
