I am occasionally seeing the following error;

 

 'read_char: timed out outside of poll'

 

Any ideas what might be causing it or stop it from happening?

This is not specific to portslave but I'm hoping someone here can help.

 

Basically I would like to stop the username being echoed back during login.

 

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Portslave has full support for modem init strings including multi-stage 
strings.  The man page documents this and the example config file has it set 
to use "ATZ".  Most people find that it's easiest to program the desired 
settings into the modem flash storage and just use ATZ, but there's nothing 
stopping you from having Portslave send a full init string.

One thing that Portslave doesn't support is synchronous serial connections, 
hopefully your ISDN device will work in an asynchronous manner.

We're looking at using the Eicon BRI-2M isdn modem within our
portslave/radius set up. The reason for this choice is the cards ability to
answer both incoming isdn and analog connections. To do this the modem needs
to be initialized with AT&F14. Eicon support has no experience with
portslave and so can't comment on the cards suitability for use with
portslave. They did respond with the following;

 

"I did notice the ATZ command which is used to reset the modem. Normally
(like the mgetty.config) file there is a place where you can enter the init
string for the modem."

 

How can I get portslave to initialize the modems with specific strings?

Hi all,

Not sure how many people are still actively reading these mailing lists,
but those of you also on the portslave-cvs list would have noticed a bit
of activity recently.

Russell has added me as a portslave administrator, and I've been doing a
bit of work to get portslave up and running with recent versions of ppp.
I'm a Un*x sysadmin, based in Melbourne, Australia, and currently
employed at a DNS registry.

I've just made a new release of portslave - I've given it a version
number of 1.9.9 (looking towards a 2.0.0 release when it's considered
stable). I've dumped the date version-numbering scheme.

Here is a list of the major changes in the new version:

* It now compiles against ppp 2.4.3; there were a number of API changes
in this version, particularly relating to CHAP. All major Linux
distributions now ship with ppp 2.4.2 or 2.4.3, so this will make
packaging portslave much less problematic.

* It no longer needs the ppp source code to be sitting in the parent
directory when compiling. Instead, it looks for the ppp header files
and libraries under /usr/include & /usr/lib, etc...

* It is now using automake as part of its build process. This makes
it much easier to make releases.

The new release is up on the portslave sourceforge release page, so I
encourage everyone to download it and try it out.

Does your syslog works correctly? How did you set syslog and facility
directives in your pslave.conf?
