The 7th Annual Symposium on OSCAR and HPC Cluster Systems
http://www.csm.ornl.gov/oscar09
osc...@or...
June 14-17, 2009
Kingston, Ontario, Canada
Call for Papers
The 7th annual Symposium on OSCAR and HPC Cluster Systems (OSCAR ’09) will
be held June 14-17, 2009 in conjunction with the International Symposium on
High Performance Computing Systems and Applications (HPCS). The conference
is being held in Kingston, Ontario, Canada.
We are very excited to say that this year's symposium is more closely
aligned with HPCS. The scope of the symposium has again been extended to
more generally include topics from all areas of high performance computing
(HPC) clusters, with the focus being "Systems and management". This
includes the tools and techniques as well as experiences. We also
encourage authors to provide critical analysis of emerging topics in
clustering, to include heterogeneous or hybrid systems, reconfigurable
systems, virtualized systems, and all topics related to their use and
management. This may include high-level descriptions or low-level
capabilities -- the software and hardware aspects of HPC clusters.
Topics of interest:
-------------------
Authors are encouraged to submit papers on topics relating to, but not
limited to, the following:
* Cluster management issues, particularly those at large scale
* HPC cluster software and/or hardware case studies
* Heterogeneous/hybrid cluster management
* Cluster tools/infrastructure
* Build and configuration management techniques/tools
* Administration policy/practice (experiences)
* Cluster management software surveys
* System failure analysis
* System resilience
* Emerging hardware/systems
* Diskless systems
* Cluster and system virtualization
* System software testing and validation
Submission Guidelines:
----------------------
All accepted papers will be published in the conference proceedings.
Abstracts and papers should be submitted to the HPCS'09 conference
submission page at: http://www.hpcs2009.org/. See the HPCS'09 conference
webpages for details on abstract and paper specifications and page lengths.
Important Dates:
----------------
Abstract and/or full paper deadline: February 16, 2009
Acceptance notification: March 6, 2009
Final manuscript: May 1, 2009

OSCAR-6.0 is out! This version provides the latest modifications which will ease future developments. On the roadmap, we already plan to include many project on which students worked during the summer 2008, including a benchmarking framework, a monitoring framework, and mechanisms to deal with specific NFS configuration. This version will also be a good base for bug fixes. Remember that this version does not provide yet all the capabilities OSCAR were used to provide. For this version, we focused on the implementation of a stable OSCAR core and cleaning up; which should allow us to move forward. More capabilities will be included in future OSCAR-6.x releases. Right now, OSCAR-6.x supports only RHEL/CentOS 5 for both x86 and x86_64 in a production environment. The support of Debian systems is still experimental since we found a critical bug in opkgc (which should be fixed shortly). OSCAR-6.0 is available via our YUM/APT on-line repositories. For more details about how to use those repositories, please refer to http://svn.oscar.openclustergroup.org/trac/oscar/wiki/repoTesting. The next version of OSCAR-6.x will be available via the same repositories, providing an easy way to update OSCAR. Thanks, Geoffroy Vallee OSCAR Chair |

Hello,
This is a reminder that the deadline for paper submissions to the 6th
Annual Symposium on OSCAR and HPC Cluster Systems is approaching.
The symposium has an expanded scope this year to more broadly encompass the
general area of high performance computing (HPC) clusters. Please see the
Call for Papers (listed below) for further details.
The symposium will again be co-hosted with the HPCS and is to be held
at the University of Laval in Quebec City, Quebec, Canada. This year the
conference is slightly later in the year (June 9-11, 2008) to align with
the Quebec City 400th anniversary celebrations.
Thanks,
--tjn

Dear OSCAR Users & Developers, after one year of development and just in time for SuperComputing 2006 the new release of OSCAR is ready! It is downloadable from the sourceforge site. Many thanks to all who contributed to this version with ideas, requirements, developments, alpha and beta testing, bug reports and fixes! The Release Notes for OSCAR 5.0 are attached to this email. You'll notice that OSCAR 5.0 is significantly different from OSCAR 4.2. You will not be able to update from OSCAR 4.2 to OSCAR 5.0 because the infrastructure has changed significantly. Also the way how the first steps of the installation go have changed, therefore make sure that you read at least the page http://oscar.openclustergroup.org/oscar_5.0 before you start a new installation. Happy clustering! Cheers, Erich -- Dr. Erich Focht Solution Architecture Group, Linux R&D NEC High Performance Computing Europe |

The Open Cluster Group is pleased to announce the release of OSCAR 4.1.
The following are hightlights from this release:
+ Full support for Mandrakelinux (Mandriva Linux) 10.0 running on
IA32 processors.
+ A Streamlined install process for OSCAR on Red Hat Enterprise
Linux 3.
+ The OSCAR testing framework has been extended to make use of the
APITest tool for more thorough post installation testing.
+ RPM dependency resolution and installation are now handled for
both the server and the client image by DepMan and PackMan.
These
tools greatly reduce the effort needed by OSCAR package authors
to
install software on an OSCAR built system.
For more information about this release and links to download, please
visit our newly designed website at http://oscar.openclsutergroup.org.
The OSCAR Team would also like to take this opportunity to invite all
OSCAR users to register their cluster built using the OSCAR Toolkit.
The direct link to register your cluster is
http://oscar.openclustergroup.org/register.
Thanks for your support!
Cheers,
Bernard

Hey all, After a very productive session up in Montreal, we are now announcing the creation of a Thin-OSCAR development mailing list. This list is intended to discuss the creation of Thin-OSCAR. Many may ask: "What is Thin-OSCAR?" Thin-OSCAR is an effort to create a version of OSCAR that will not require full node installation to run. We expect Thin-OSCAR to be able to handle fully diskless nodes, as well as just OSless nodes, and any other combination of on disk/off disk operation you could imagine. The goal is to make this solution fit seamlessly with the existing OSCAR solution, so users would have the choice of deploying a single image to either disk-full, diskless, or disk-capable but OSless nodes. We'll kick off the mailing list on Monday July 15th with opening comments, (I'm giving people a few days to get subscribed before we start major discussions on the list) and expect all development discussions to=20 happen over there. If you are interested in working, observing, or=20 even just being part of the peanut gallery on the Thin-OSCAR project,=20 sign up for the mailing list at: http://www.osl.iu.edu/mailman/listinfo.cgi/thinoscar-devel If you have any further questions, feel free to email me about them. So if you are interested, go sign up for the list, and we'll see you soon on thinoscar-devel. -Sean --=20 _______________________________________________________________________ =09 Sean Dague se...@da... http://dague.net There is no silver bullet. OSCAR users -- It recently came to our attention that the installation instructions for OSCAR 1.1 that were posted on the OSCAR web page were incorrect. The installation instructions that were included with the OSCAR 1.1 distribution (oscar-1.1.tgz) are correct -- only the web page was out of date. The web page has now been fixed. http://oscar.sourceforge.net/ We are sending this notice to the oscar-announce and oscar-users lists to notify all users who may have simply printed out the installation instructions from the web; please either use the instructions that were in your OSCAR 1.1 distribution, or go print a new copy from the OSCAR web pages. We appologize for the inconvenience. {+} Jeff Squyres {+} jsq...@la... {+} http://www.lam-mpi.org/ |
