The X version should still compile even if svga fails. You can force svga not to compile like this: ./configure --without-svga Assuming you do indeed want the svga version, you need to find out if and where the file libvgagl.so is installed. Make sure it isn't a dangling link. Then, check to make sure the library is in the load path (the path is stored somewhere like /etc/ld.so.conf). I guess Philip must have discontinued the cd. Anyway, you can download lincity through the sourceforge site: https://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=33390 For lincity-ng, there is a different site: http://lincity-ng.berlios.de/wiki/index.php/Download/Installation Greg --- Sandra Price <kc...@gm...> wrote: > Hi, > > I am a college teacher teaching urban environmental policy, > and was thinking > about utilizing Lin City to help my students think through > sustainability > issues. Hi, I am a college teacher teaching urban environmental policy, and was thinking about utilizing Lin City to help my students think through sustainability issues. Do you know of another link to Philip White's windows freeware collection? The following link does not work. http://pmw.myip.org/oss/ Thank you, Sandy Price University of Missouri - Kansas City 602-317-4546 |

Hello, I don't mean to sound ignorant or lazy but I'm having a really difficult time installing lincity on my mac OS X. Could you possibly give me step by step instructions on what to do from the very beginning. All I have is the tar.gz file but I have no idea what to do with it. If you can't give me step by step instructions (which would be really appreciated) could you at least tell me what applications I need to use to install lincity? Thank you so much for your time. |

This license does not allow sharing with closed source projects. We also created lincity in out spare times and we (I assume I speak for the team here...) don't want to support closed source/commercial games. Greetings, Matze |

Hello! I hope this message is appropriate to this list. It was the only way I foun= d to contact the group. Cityscape is a city building game we have been developing for windows. A playable 2D demo (placeholder graphics, but has sounds and a great voice tutorial) has just been released. http://www.cityscapegame.com/cityscape-5-6.zip We also have the beginnings of a 3D engine<http://www.cityscapegame.com/www/archive.htm>, which we have put on hold in favor of experimenting with gameplay concepts first. About Our Game In terms of gameplay, the difference from SimCity is the amount of detail. We represent the income, spending, and happiness of each and every sim. Firms produce goods, which trucks carry to their points of sale. The entire city is built up piece by piece by your workers, using the appropriate materials, which you can buy or make on your own. In this respect we're more akin to Tropico. But we use trucks and roads to move things around the map, and travel distance is not *the* dominant facto= r to your city's productivity the way it is in Tropico. We are also trying to do a "closed" economy, where money is transferred always between two agents in the game -- instead of vaporizing $1000 to build a fire station, you pay a construction yard to do it, which in turn pays its workers, suppliers, owners -- these agents in turn spend it on things they desire, and so on. In the demo imports and exports are not closed in this sense. In a future version all trade will be with other players, or with a mega-distributor such as a game-master. What We Seek I worked with Linux during grad school and really loved the OS. I've done a bit of kernel work using application profiling to enhance memory management= . When I started this project, I had to make a decision about where to focus my resources (right now I'm at 2-person full time team). I decided my main purpose was to develop a new kind of gameplay, and to use the most time saving tools available. You can flame me but I went with windows :)) With the release of the demo, I would like to explore the possibility continuing the game's development as a cross-platform project using SDL/OpenGL. This is a commercial game, however, so it must be essentially close source. I'm considering two ideas - to make the Linux binaries free for all versions of the game - to develop the game as partially open-source, sharing graphics and other infrastructure code with LinCity I am looking for people who are excited by the gameplay concept, want a chance to influence its development, and want to see the game on Linux. Please write to me if this interests you! Kirby |

Hi, Thanks for the report. There is a bug with -d in 1.13. However, version 1.12.1 seems to work just fine. > -800x600 24 bits > I want lincity cover all the screen without to quit kde and > X11. I don't think the -d flag will work for you. You need a minimum resolution of 1280x960 for the -d flag to work properly. My best suggestion is to run it "regular", in a window, then resize the window to be maximized. Or, ALT-CTRL-F5 and run in a console, ALT-CTRL-F7 to return to X. :-) Greg Greg Sharp gre...@ge... __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo! My config. : - Mandriva LE2005(Mandrake 10.2) - KDE 3.3.2 - Xorg - Graphic board : Nvidia GeForce FX 5200 with the last driver 7174 - 15" display -800x600 24 bits I want lincity cover all the screen without to quit kde and X11. With "xlincity -d" the windows is greeter the my display and the image of lincity keeps the same size as launched with "xlincity I think it perhaps exists some kde command or x11 command to enlarge to the 15" the lincity winddows or any else solution. Anyone has a solution ? thanks in advance see the joined screenshot |

No, apple's x11 should be fine (as far as I know). See if you can figure out where it is installed and you can tell that to lincity. There are two things that lincity needs: the include directory and the library directory. To find the include directory, search your entire hard disk for the file "X.h". To find the library directory, search for something like "libX11.so" or "libX11.a". After getting the directories, try reconfiguring like this: ./configure --x-includes=/path/to/includes --x-libraries=/path/to/libraries Greg Greg Sharp gre...@ge... __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!?
