Hello there.. I was searching for a program like Guitar Pro and found our program Kguitar that had made happy by far the idea.. (excuses for the poor english..) Well, so i download the tarball as soon as i could and i've checked the requirements and took care of some library issues before try to compile. When i tryed to compile, the prompt returns me the following message: checking build system type... i686-pc-linux-gnu checking host system type... i686-pc-linux-gnu checking target system type... i686-pc-linux-gnu checking for a BSD-compatible install... /bin/install -c checking for -p flag to install... yes checking whether build environment is sane... yes checking for gawk... gawk checking whether make sets $(MAKE)... yes checking for kde-config... not found configure: error: The important program kde-config was not found! PLEASE CHECK WETHER YOU INSTALLED KDE CORRECTLY. note for the last lines.. there is my problem.. I got this Gentoo instalation from my "Linux-teatcher", but he is kind unaccessible for now, so i just can count on you.. I'm newbie in Linux, but think that just few adjusts in the ./configure shall solve my problem.. Can you help me? I'm waiting answers.. and thank you just for the attention.. Congratulations for the project.. i've read the noews, and that sounds real good.. _______________________________________________________ Promoção Yahoo! What hardware should I have in your > opinion? I believe that your card doesn't have internal MIDI synth: only external input and output channels. The easiest way for you should be using QSynth / Fluidsynth, TiMidity++ or something similar in the realm of software synthesizers. There are not hard to run and configure. Other way is getting a card that support hardware MIDI synthesis or plugging hardware MIDI synthesizer (usually a keyboard or 19" rack module). So far, I know basically only 1 card family that supports hardware MIDI synthesis in Linux: Creative Sound Blasters (Live, Audigy, etc). May be there are more... -- WBR, Mikhail Yakshin AKA GreyCat ALT Linux [http://www.altlinux.ru] [xmpp:gr...@al...] |

Thanks Mikhail for your answer.
My sound card is as follows:
Vendor: ‎Ensoniq
Description: ‎CT5880
Media class: ‎MULTIMEDIA_AUDIO
Connection
Bus: ‎PCI
Bus PCI #: ‎0
PCI device #: ‎10
PCI function #: ‎0
Vendor ID: ‎4724
Device ID: ‎22656
Sub vendor ID: ‎4724
Sub device ID: ‎8195
Driver Module: ‎es1371
Alternative drivers: ‎snd-ens1371 (ALSA)
Also, I have installed RoseGarden (but I'm also lost
with that program. :(
In Rosegarden configuration I found this info:
"Creating device 0 in Play mode for connection 64:0
ES1371 (duplex)
Default device name for this device is MIDI external
device
Creating device 1 in Record mode for connection 64:0
ES1371 (duplex)
Default device name for this device is MIDI hardware
input device
Current timer set to "system timer"
AlsaDriver::initialiseMidi - initialised MIDI
subsystem"
So, do you think that my card is not supporting MIDI
sound output? What hardware should I have in your
opinion?
Thanks.

Does it have an internal synth or do you use software synth with it? You can check it with some other MIDI-playing software, for example, kmid (not kmidi!) from KDE or any MIDI sequencer (Rosegarden, Anthem, Muse, etc). If they're not playing, it's not a problem of KGuitar or TSE3 - it's a common problem of MIDI not playing at all on your system. > In the past, when I still used Windows98, I had > TabEdit or something like that, which could play sound > files with my sound card. Hi, I have installed Kguitar in Mandrake 10.1 Community. Everything seems to work (I mean, I can insert notes and things like that), except that I cannot hear any sound when pushing the buton "play". I downloaded one of the files available as a test from the official Kguitar site. No sound at all, and the cursor does not move. I wonder what is the problem? I was expecting to hear sound coming out from my sound card. Is that correct? Or do I need something else? I am completely at loss. In the past, when I still used Windows98, I had TabEdit or something like that, which could play sound files with my sound card. Is the problem the MIDI stuff (I have not a single idea of how to do that)? Do I need to connect something, like an electronic keyboard? Or else? Thanks a lot for your help. Hi, I'm a newbee in linux, and I have some problems using kguitar: It compiles without difficulites, using ./configure --prefix=/opt/kde && make && make install. My problem is that it doesn't open any Guitar Pro files (gtp or gp3), and may crash when trying to open some files. I'm using a slackware 9.0, with kernel 2.4.23, KDE-3.1.0, qt 3.1.2. (tried kguitar from cvs, because te 0.4.9 release only show 5 very "high" buttons on the options dialog box!) I've also tried the same pre-built package of my own in another computer, with the same configuration, except the KDE version: 3.1.4, but no changes... Can somebody help me finding what's wrong? thanxx! PS: I'm french, I hope you will understant what I want to say.... Wen |

I already reverse-engineered this format and have a parser for this one. But I don't know if we can include it in KGuitar or not - would it be a license offense? > So where can I help in the current development? this list is so silent Because this list is KG user talks :) Use the kguitar-devel maillist - we discuss things there.
