We are doing a project on Text to Speech Conversion only for Indian

Use a real world C compiler. No real programmer uses Turbo C compiler.
Please run away from Turbo C, MS DOS.

Please learn how to compile complex C application using autotools. Without
that it is not possible to use Dhvani library.

     The current dhvani project aims at converting text to speech. I have
an idea with which two users of different language can communicate
effectively in their mother tongue without knowing other party language :).

        1.currently we dhvani system which convert text to speech.
        2.We need to create another text to speech system for Indian
languages.
        3.We need to connect both using translation.

Hi Santhosh,

I found 8 contributors (https://www.ohloh.net/p/dhvani/contributors)
excluding duplicates (you, I and Shrini got counted twice), non-human
(cvs2svn, svn2git conversion). If you know anyone other contributor than
these people please provide their mail id. I will send mail to them and see
if they are fine with the change. I will also try to see if their names can
be added in git.

No objections from me. Some parts of the dhvani- database, synthesizer 
etc were written by Dr Ramesh Hariharan and then some language modules 
were contributed by others. So we will have to contact them too.

Having Dhvani library under GPL does not make much sense. Any program that
links to dhvani library has to be GPL. It may reduce the reach of dhvani.
So I think changing the license to LGPL will be better. This will apply
only to the dhvani library (code that produces libdhvani.so) and not the
dhvani application. Application that uses libdhvani will be in GPL. A side
effect will be higher modularity in code.

To do this all the developers who have contributed to dhvani should agree
for the license change. So I request all the dhvani contributors to reply
to this mail with their response / thoughts. Hope all contributors will
agree to this.

Even if one contributor does not agree or did not respond this change
cannot be made. So please weigh the positives and negatives before making a
decision.

This list is only related to Dhvani. So please don't expect answer for
Pyttsx or M$ SAPI5. Please post this in Pyttsx mailing list. With M$ I
don't think you can get useful support as a user - so nothing can be
done in this regard.

Is it created using public funded money? If so it must be open source.

Dhvani's output also sounds similar. May be they are using the same
back end code and voice for this also?

What does the reply mean?

The best answer to all these is to make Dhvani the best possible TTS
for Indian languages.

A G Ramakrishnan created some tamil tools including OCR, handwriting
recognition and TTS.

Yesterday attended his demo/talk at Tamil virtual university, chennai.

His tools are working fine.
But they are not for public access.
Fully propitiatory :-(

Asked him to release their all software as Free Software or Open Source
Software.

Yes government funds can be available. But the problem is with the
procedures to be followed, finding contacts etc. I feel that will be a
very big task than writing code (will be glad to be proved wrong).

I hope we can get donations from our friends here.

But we need to plan on how much we want, how to share with contributors etc.

We can list the requirements and fix the cost too, so that any developer
can pick his interested one and work on that.
