Greetings; I just installed *AmphetaDesk <http://www.disobey.com/amphetadesk/whats_new.html> and it seems to be working very well. I noticed there have been no updates for a few years. Is it stable/finished now? Any hints/tips on how to make it work even better? Thanks! Dennis * |

I used it on OS 9 for a long time, and now use it constantly on OS X; it just sits there quietly and does what it's supposed to. No problems at all. When something works that well, I don't see why it needs to be updated. Isaac |

Fascinating comment... Whatever happened to Amphetadesk? I miss it. If something is never updated, it tends to die even if it is worthy. I have a couple of Linux systems set up now, I think I'll install Amphetadesk. --- amp...@li... wrote: > Send amphetadesk-discuss mailing list submissions to > amp...@li... > > To subscribe or unsubscribe via the World Wide Web, visit > > https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/amphetadesk-discuss > or, via email, send a message with subject or body 'help' > to > amp...@li... > > You can reach the person managing the list at > amp...@li... > > When replying, please edit your Subject line so it is > more specific > than "Re: Contents of amphetadesk-discuss digest..." > > > Today's Topics: > > 1. alpha-omega deposit (james stewart) > > > ---------------------------------------------------------------------- > > Message: 1 > Date: Fri, 1 Sep 2006 11:07:50 +0200 (CEST) > From: james stewart <whi...@ya...> > Subject: [amphetadesk-discuss] alpha-omega deposit > To: amp...@li... > Message-ID: > <200...@we...> > Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" > > Rome, 1.9.2006 > Respectable Amphetadesk Discuss, > > All deposit the Omnipotent Creator Alpha-Omega for > Trillions Usd.use in fraudolent system USA, VATICAN and > ISRAEL. > > Only Diaz Nanette & Poirrotte Contract is responsible > the this deposit. > > Me person and Tarciana Cinco Rodriguez is Manager the > this Contract and deposit . > > Is impossible use this deposit for WAR or BUSINESS, > utlization is only for poor peoples. > > I have alls documents for demonstration the my > declaration. > > Best regards. > Marco Di Mauro > > > > JAMES STEWART > > have a good day !! > > > > __________________________________________________ > Do You Yahoo!? > Poco spazio e tanto spam? Hi, is someone still maintaining the software? My favorite thing is that the 40+ feeds I read at work are all on one = page. I can't stand the readers that make the feeds look like separate = emails. Or the ones that look like a tabbed browser. Might as well = read the web page, right? I'd like if it supported multiple .opml files, too, since my own = interests are very different from my work interests. Right now I have = two copies of Amphetadesk on my work computer to accomplish this. It would be very nice if Amphetadesk supported Atom feeds. It would be = even nicer if it parsed a feed for podcasts and automatically saved them = to my mp3 player. Can I help in any way? Leslie |

Ok, figured out how to run it as a service but when I try to run the service but then it times out when you try to start it. How difficult would it be to lose the webserver and just have it build the pages and dump them into a directory and let IIS handle the webserving? Sorry to email the whole list but the report a problem wouldn't work neither could I find any other email link on the "Feedback" page! My install went OK but when I try to start it I get the error: Unable to start aggregator Component returned error code 80040154 (NS_ERROR_FACTORY_NOT_REGISTERED)........ When I choose "Report a Problem" in the help menu I get an XML Parsing error! When I choose "NewsMonster" preferences it brings up an empty dialog box! How do I uninstall this wonderful piece of software?? I've just closed Firefox and now cannot get back in to Firefox, it's asking for a profile (which it shouldn't!) and when I choose default it says it's already in use!!!! =20 Now I've got to reboot Windows!!!!!! ARRRRRRGGGHHHHH! Nice software guys ! NOT! :o( I'm using Firefox 1.02 on Windows XP Java 1.4.2 I am actually trying to evaluate this for us in the UK Ministry of Defence for use on various Military networks, it's not looking good but if you can get me fixed up I'll be happy to look again! The HTTP::Daemon documentation doesn't do a very good job It could be, yes. That setting controls how long the web server daemon will wait around for a request from the browser. With the setting of 0.1, it loops very ferociously, constantly listening for requests, but only giving them a very small microt of time to occur in. The reason for this was, what I felt, a "bigger issue", and that was GUI updating. At the time AmphetaDesk was coded, I was still focusing on releasing a version for Mac OS 9, where forking of any kind didn't exist. As such, AmphetaDesk had to all operate within one process, which necessitated an event queue. For AmphetaDesk, messages in the queue are either a) a web server request, b) a GUI update request, or c) a download of an RSS feed. Since the GUI request was the most hazardous to miss (because it wouldn't refresh the window, causing unresponsiveness), everything else was modified to give that the most room it could, thus the 0.1 timeout on the daemon request. To be honest, I never tested any value BESIDES 0.1, so a 0.5 could very live happily with the GUI. Of course, nowadays, I'd drop OS 9 support entirely (whilst still keeping the last working version publicly available) and move to a proper forking model. -- Morbus Iff ( get on the floor. baby, lose control. ) Technical: http://www.oreillynet.com/pub/au/779 Culture: http://www.disobey.com/ and http://www.gamegrene.com/ icq: 2927491 / aim: akaMorbus / yahoo: morbus_iff / jabber.org: morbus |

This email is a rehash of an older topic (http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/message.php?msg_id=5171693). I read all the related threads, and it didn't seem that the problem had actually been solved. Also, I have seen the case where multiple images have failed to load (not just the last one requested), as well as "document contains no data" error messages when pressing F5 to refresh the browser page. I'm using Firefox 0.10.1 on WinXP Home SP2 and amphetaDesk 0.93.1 with minor modifications and a custom-made skin. The problems appeared to stop after I changed the HTTP::Daemon timeout value (in Webserver.pm) from 0.1 to 0.5. Could this be the solution to the problem? The HTTP::Daemon documentation doesn't do a very good job of explaining the timeout value, basically stating that the constructor parameters are the same as those of IO::Socket::INET. And the documentation I found for IO::Socket::INET does not give specifics about how the timeout value is used. -- Chad Cloman |

Hi
That workaround Works fine but it also expose all the code inside the script
tag. You can use:
$item->{description} =~ s/<script//i; # changes the end script tag
to a comment end
This way the javascript code is hidden by the html comment

The current version of AmphetaDesk is over two
years old, and there is no ETA for a new release.
Regardless, XSS and tag-stripping is known/requested.
A quick workaround:
* open up AmphetaDesk/templates/default/index.html
* look for the following series of lines:
# each of the channel items.
foreach my $item (@{$data->{item}}) {
* Since AmphetaDesk templates understand Perl, it's trivial
to implement some regexps to remove, or disable, tags
that you're not interested in:
$item->{description} =~ s/</?b>//i; # strip tags.
$item->{description} =~ s/</?script>//i; # strip tags.
And so on. The same can be done for $item->{title}s.
